In property management, the biggest mistake people make is trying to do too much too fast. You don’t need to take over an entire city. You need to focus, dial in, and prove you can succeed in one place first. Learn to dominate an area by mastering one area. That’s how you build a foundation that lasts.
Start Small, Win Big
For example, take Marblestone. Rather than trying to take on the bigger property management companies with hundreds or thousands of doors throughout the city, I started small. At the time, I managed only my own portfolio and then a handful of places for friends. But we stayed in South Side Chicago. I learned everything I could about the neighborhoods here.
After all, it’s where we live and work. It’s also where we can make the biggest impact. By concentrating our energy here in these neighborhoods, we’re able to give properties, tenants, and communities the attention they deserve.
Laser Focus to Dominate
When you zero in on one area rather than getting lost in the clouds, you build stronger connections and a reputation that people can trust. We’ve become laser-focused on creating safer homes, better-managed properties, and healthier neighborhoods in South Side Chicago.
Scaling the Right Way
Once you’ve proven your model in one area, growth happens naturally. I can’t say it’ll work for everyone, but that’s how we built up MPG. Now, we dominate our market by not trying to be everywhere at once. Instead, we focus on making a measurable difference where we are in South Side Chicago.
